So, this is my last
annual report as I retire at the beginning of May. I
arrived in November 1999 with the challenge of
recruiting a parish priest. However since I took many
of the services over the next ten months, before Di
Townsend arrived, I had the chance to get to know you by
name and this has been very helpful.
Church life at St Mary’s
over the last decade with the guidance and encouragement
of both Di Townsend and Dave Stickland has flourished;
challenges met like the heating system, new forms of
liturgy, study groups and the community post office in
the Seward Room. In this year of change in the priestly
leadership, St Mary’s is I believe in good heart and
looking forward to new challenges and opportunities.
My special thanks to Dave
and Carol Stickland for their ministry over the last
year and indeed over the last four and a half years. My
thanks also to all who have served on the PCC over the
last ten years, particularly the office holders: the
Church Wardens - Richard Marks, Brian Kempton, Richard
Robinson, Katharine Beaumont, Sue Williams and Lynne
Ashcroft; the Director of Music - Alison Stevens;
the Treasurers - Jenny Matthews and Ian Johnston; the
verger - Charmian Reeves; the sacristan - Jean
Kempton; for churchyard and church maintenance - Bob
Wright; and the IDWAL link - Mary Owens.
Penny and I will be
living in Southsea and I will always be interested to
know about the village and church news.
Be assured of my prayers.
