CHRISTIAN AID

Nineteen people collected door-to-door during Christian Aid Week, throughout the village – including Weston, Nursted and Ditcham. A big thank-you to all of them, and to all who gave – raising a grand total of £595.91p.

We do this because we know that we are the lucky ones and out in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East there are millions living in poverty, for whom finding clean water to drink is a daily struggle or failure of the harvest means failure to feed your family and, ultimately, starvation.

And I also believe that we, all the churches together, must work for change that eradicates the causes of poverty; we seek to achieve dignity, justice and freedom for all, regardless of faith or nationality.

So I truly hope that Buriton will continue its long tradition of supporting this national charity and that all of us will want to give through collecting and donating. Christian Aid Week 2010 is from May 9th – 15th.
